Max Factor was founded more than a hundred years ago, which at the beginning of the silent films and film industry showed how important it is to use professional makeup in the world of motion pictures.

Maksymilian Faktorowicz was already active in the beauty industry at a very young age: in 1890 he opened his shop selling his own lipsticks and face creams. He became so recognized in Europe that he became an official cosmetics expert at the Moscow Tsarist Opera House. But with the man’s family, he moved to the United States in 1904 and settled on Ellis Island, near Manhattan, and then moved to Los Angeles in 1908.

Faktorowicz founded his business Max Factor & Company in 1909 – the name of the founder was simplified by the immigration office Max Factor even earlier. He mainly sold everyday cosmetics, but he was constantly looking for new opportunities and ingredients until the film industry noticed his products.

Max Factor was born in 1914, a line of cosmetics designed specifically for actors. While in 1920, it launched its products for the general public.

This is because Max Factor’s product range has strayed from cosmetics previously designed for stage and theater, they were much lighter and, unlike previous primers, did not harden. As film production grew, so did the number of orders, and in fact, Factor was already handing out personal advice to the biggest Hollywood celebrities while promoting its products so that anyone could be an A-list beauty using them. In addition, western filmmakers also ordered the necessary wigs from Factor.

The company’s famous Hollywood headquarters was bought by Max Factor in 1928 – the building was originally used as a warehouse for stars, which was completely remodeled to XIV. Design contemporary Louis-style showrooms in the building. This year, he received his Oscar as the professional’s gratitude for his professional products.

Interestingly, Max Factor coined the term make-up to separate his products from cosmetics, which was later taken over by the whole world.

Another great invention is associated with the name Factor, the micrometer. The essence of the structure is that it can be used to determine the features of the face with geometric accuracy and thus it is more visible which part needs to be improved by the master.

After the death of Max Factor in 1938, his son Frank Factor – later known to the world as Max Factor Junior – took over the management of the company and then listed it in 1960. The company remained in family hands until 1973 when it merged with Norton Simmon for $ 500 million (about $ 3 billion today) and was later acquired by Procter & Gamble in 1991 for $ 1.5 billion. In 2018, Max Factor was acquired by the American multinational beauty company, Coty acquired Max Factor. The company has 20,000 employees worldwide and its products are available in about 150 countries, including Max Factor makeup products.
